CLINTON OUTSPENT 2-1, STILL WINS PA BY 10: Clinton now ahead in popular vote
What, you didn’t see that headline?  Funny, neither did I.  Instead, I saw these: “
Clinton’s Pa. win still leaves her the underdog”; “Clinton stays alive with win in Pennsylvania”; “Clinton Wins. Or Does She?”; “Slender Hope Remains Alive”; “Clinton’s win in Pa. leaves Obama battered, party reeling”; “Clinton Outduels Obama in Primary: The Bruising Will Go On for the Party

Hillary now leads in the popular vote (Hillary’s Voice)
[
But of course, now that Obama no longer leads in the popular vote, the popular vote no longer counts.]

Does it drive them nuts that she’s so classy and gracious? (by Violet Socks at Hillary’s Voice)
Hillary’s victory speech … was wonderful. Pure Hillary: smart, down to earth, classy. The most moving part of the speech was when … she talked about how this Presidential race is a landmark in the two-century-long project of moving
America forward. She said that when the Founding Fathers met in Philadelphia 200 years ago, “neither I nor Senator Obama nor many of you” were part of their dream. But through the efforts of so many over so many years — the abolitionists, the suffragists, the progressives, the civil rights heroes, etc., the American dream has expanded. Because of them, she said, she grew up taking for granted that women could vote. Because of them, Chelsea grew up taking for granted that children of all races could attend the same schools. And now, she said, “because of you,” today’s children will grow up taking for granted that either a woman or an African-American can be President of the United States. The crowd went over the moon. I actually blubbed. I don’t know what kind of cognitive dissonance is required to watch this woman and hate her. It is beyond my understanding.

Hillary’s Victory Is Our Victory … (by SusanUnPC at No Quarter)
… and it is our precious hope for our country to make true strides. We won’t talk about change. We’ll make change happen… FROM TODD BEETON (MyDD): “Since Pennsylvania was called for Hillary Clinton 3 hours ago she has raised $2.5 million, 80% of which is from new donors. Voters do not want this to be over.”…

WE KNOW WHAT TO DO. We can’t let him BUY the election. We have as much energy, as much commitment, as much drive as his troops. We have pennies and a few dollars we can spare. I’m going to eat peanut butter sandwiches for the next few weeks if that’s what it takes. Let’s do it! You know, a couple months ago, I heard Jonathan Alter (Newsweek) snidely remark that Hillary couldn’t raise any more money because ALL of her prospective donors had maxxed out already. Her well was dry, he said. If he only knew. If he only knew about all of us.

Frugality (by Anglachel)
Taking the commonly bandied about number of $11 million spent in
Pennsylvania, with a vote haul (from the NYT) of 1,035,230, Obama spent an average of $10.63 for each vote received. Taking Hillary’s expenditure amount of $3 million, with a vote count of 1,249,936, Hillary spent an average of $2.40 for each vote received… We need a president who knows how to make that dollar stretch and uses every penny effectively, not someone who is a wastrel with other people’s money. I approve of frugality.

Matthews: Media Created The “Delusion” That Clinton Could Win (by Logan Murphy at Crooks and Liars)
During Tuesday’s Democratic presidential primary coverage on MSNBC co-host, Chris Matthews, declares the race between Obama and Clinton to be essentially over before the polls closed in Pennsylvania and blames “the media” for creating a horse race he says doesn’t exist.

“Why Won’t That Stupid Bitch Quit?” watch (by lambert at Corrente)
Obviously, [Tuesday’s] PA primary results are a tremendous win for Obama, who was able to hold Hillary’s margin of victory well under 20%, while outspending her by a mere 2 to 1 (I’m not sure whether that figure includes the DVD mailers or not, though). Now that Hillary can finally do so with dignity, she should quit, for the sake of party unity and Donna Brazile’s future employment prospects.

Most Harmful Democrat: Donna Brazile (by Big Tent Democrat at TalkLeft)
One of the biggest problems in the DNC remains the horrible Donna Brazile. Look at this divisive rhetoric: “There’s a group around [Sen. Clinton] that really wants to take the fight to the convention. They don’t care about the party. It scares me, and that’s what scares a lot of superdelegates.” What a harmful figure Donna Brazile is to the Democratic Party. Apparently she cares not at all about unifying the Democratic Party. She should resign from the DNC immediately.

Quincy Jones talk about Hillary Clinton (video)

Maya Angelou on Hillary (video)

A member of the Hillary’s Voice message group got a screen capture from the home page of the Huffington Post, trying to set up in advance the Obama campaign’s excuse for its loss to Hillary Clinton in the Philadelphia primary—that it’s the racism, stupid.  Is it just a coincidence that the guy on the left looks like Michael Moore, the sicko who just endorsed Obama because of Hillary hate?

It Ain’t the Color of the Skin, It’s the Thickness (by Larry Johnson at No Quarter)
Barack Obama’s supporters, fearing a blowout in
Pennsylvania, are already “preparing the battlefield” for the spin war to come… They will attribute Barack’s poor showing to racism.  You know, “white Americans don’t want to vote for a black man.”… It is not Barack’s beautiful chocolate skin tone that turns many of us off.  It is the realization that he is thin skinned.  His reaction to his poor performance at the last debate in Pennsylvania comes off as petulant, whiney, and juvenile… So Barack, you can stick the race card where the sun doesn’t shine.  Toughen up and get some callouses.  If our challenges to your candidacy chafes your ass, then you are certainly not ready for the bloodsport that is general election.
But if it’s not racism, they wuz robbed.  See below.

Pro-Obama blogosphere tries to blame loss on fraud (by kingsbridge77 at MyDD)
In an attempt to save face after the imminent huge loss tonight in PA, the pro-Obama blogosphere, led by self-described Obama supporter Ariannna Huffington, who was recently spotted chillng in David Geffen’s yacht in the exotic Tahiti island (Geffen is a billioaire Obama donor), is trying to create the impression that, not only there are significant problems with voting machines in Pennsylvania, but that these problems are targetting exclusively African American areas. Neither allegation is true, according to Philadelphia Deputy Commissioner Fred Voight, who said the problems encountered have been typical, and described as “flat-out not true” the allegations that only African American districts were having problems.

ON DEADLINE: Why Obama can’t close deal (by Ron Fournier, Associated Press, who has been no friend to Democrats in the past)
Why can’t Barack Obama put Hillary Clinton away? He’s flush with cash. He oversees a high-tech political movement. His “change” message fits these anxious times. And, until recently, he had momentum. So why didn’t he win Tuesday? And why can’t he close the deal?…
RACE: The jury is still out on whether a black man can overcome
America’s original sin and be elected president…
WORKING-CLASS VOTERS: Obama can’t win the presidency unless he starts connecting better with blue-collar voters…
FRIENDS IN TROUBLE: The longer the campaign goes, the more questions Obama faces about his friends and associates…
INEXPERIENCE: It’s true that
Clinton has never run a government or a business, but many voters give her credit for proximity. They consider her experience as first lady preparation for the presidency. By any measure, Obama is relatively inexperienced…
METTLE:
Clinton’s backers love the fact that she fought Republicans — not to mention the “right-wing conspiracy” — during her husband’s presidency. Many Democrats wonder whether Obama is tough enough, a charge that he should be putting to rest in this brass-knuckle nominating contest. But he hasn’t.

Barack Obama, From Hope and Change to Mr. Cellophane (by Larry Johnson at No Quarter)
Quick now.  A couple of questions.  How can Barack be viewed seriously as the candidate of “hope” and “change” when he is the candidate of the entrenched, Democratic, dynastic families?  If you have got the Kennedys, the Caseys, the Daleys, and the Hoffas in your corner, what exactly are you going to change? Based on [Tuesday’s] performance in
Pennsylvania, the only “hope” Barack is offering is to the Republicans.  If he is the Democrats’ candidate come November they will have a solid shot at victory.  And on the change front?  Barack will change the odds of the Democrats ability to wrest control of the White House from almost certain to almost impossible.

Fact is Obama’s risky (by Michael Graham, Boston Herald)
While Hillary Clinton soundly beats McCain in
Massachusetts in the new SurveyUSA poll, 56 percent to 41 percent, the Obama/McCain number is 48 percent to 46 percent, well within the margin of error… For a while, Obama was the golden child. His campaign allegedly inspired Obamacans to abandon the GOP in red states like Montana. As long as he looked like a winner, the Obama Express could not be stopped. Now, it’s the post-Rev. Wright Obama - insulting “clinging” rural voters, running attack ads of questionable veracity, making public statements on things from gun control (for it) and higher taxes (for them, too) that are demonstrably untrue. This may be the righter “left” way to govern, but is it the way to beat McCain?

Moyers Lands Rev. Wright Interview (Politico)
Bill Moyers will have the first Jeremiah Wright interview since clips of Obama’s former pastor became YouTube election year staples.

THE LONG MARCH TO NOVEMBER…. (by Kevin Drum at Political Animal, the Washington Monthly)
Michael Scherer reports that Floyd Brown, the guy responsible for the Willie Horton ad in 1988, is now setting his sights on Barack Obama with a new spot scheduled to run in North Carolina: “The new ad recounts the deaths of three Chicago residents in 2001 at the hands of criminal gangs. ‘That same year, a
Chicago state senator named Barack Obama voted against expanding the death penalty for gang-related murders,’ an ominous female narrator intones. ‘So the question is, can a man so weak in the war on gangs be trusted in the war on terror?’” ….Later this week, Brown said he plans to debut a second ad, focusing on Democratic support for giving driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, which he says will also be aired in North Carolina.

Underground links likely to resurface for Obama (by John Kass, Chicago Tribune)
Broadway Baby was not mentioned during the Democratic infighting in
Pennsylvania. But Broadway Baby—once a chic children’s boutique in Manhattan’s Upper West Side—is the future, if Barack Obama is the presidential candidate in the fall. This story involves two Chicagoans, former Weather Underground terrorist leaders Bernardine Dohrn and her husband, William Ayers, both Obama supporters who blessed his initial foray into politics… According to a 1982 New York Times report, Broadway Baby was implicated in an investigation of a series of violent armed robberies in New York—netting more than $2 million over a two-year span—committed by former Black Panthers and Weather Underground members in the early ’80s. Their aim? Global revolution, naturally. They needed cash, but the rich white parents weren’t in a giving mood. So their privileged offspring grabbed guns, pointed them at the faces of the working man and, sometimes, they pulled the trigger.

At Broadway Baby, customers often paid by check and used driver’s licenses for identification. On Dec. 28, 1979, information from two customer files was used to apply for two driver’s licenses at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The fraudulent licenses were used to rent getaway cars for the gang. Investigators tracked the identities on two licenses for the getaway cars. The names belonged to women who had shopped at Broadway Baby in December 1979. But they weren’t robbers. And who was the manager of Broadway Baby during that period of the customer ID theft? Dohrn, the future wife of Ayers, identified by investigators as taking customer information from one, and possibly both, of the women shoppers. Dohrn was never charged in that case.

Pennsylvanian Rep. Patrick Murphy Obama Endorsement Tainted (by A Silenced Voter at Unheard American Voices)
Pennsylvania’s Rep. Patrick Murphy gave a glowing endorsement of Senator Barack Obama on the Jon Stewart’s The Daily show. Unfortunately Rep. Patrick Murphy’s endorsement is more than a little tainted and unfortunately Jon Stewart did not bring up this fact. Rep. Murphy portrays himself as a patriotic American who served his county in Iraq and I personally thank him for his courageous service; however I can not thank him for an endorsement that appears to be based in financial gain. Rep. Patrick Murphy took an enormous “donation” in the amount $18,826.00 from Barack Obama prior to making this endorsement.  This “donation” by Barack Obama is the third highest amount and single oddest amount of all of Barack Obama’s almost ¾ of a MILLION DOLLARS in total “donations” to Super Delegates.

Obama’s Media Army (Wall Street Journal)
Nothing in the hysteria over last week’s Democratic debate – including the unprecedented opprobrium press critics heaped on the ABC moderators – should have come as any surprise. That doesn’t make it any less fascinating a guide to current strange notions of what is and is not a substantive issue in a presidential contest, or any less striking an indicator of the delicate treatment Mr. Obama’s media following have come to consider his just due. Moderators Charles Gibson’s and George Stephanopoulos’s offense was to ask questions Mr. Obama didn’t want to address. Worse, they’d continued to press them even when the displeased candidate assured them these were old and tired questions.
- “Akin to a federal crime . . . new benchmarks of degradation,” The New Yorker’s Hendrik Hertzberg declared, of the debate.
- “Despicable. . . . slanted against Obama,” Washington Post critic Tom Shales charged.
- A “disgusting spectacle,” the New York Times’s David Carr opined.
- The questions had “disgraced democracy itself,” according to columnist Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Daily News.
We never heard ANY of that when the corporate media trash Hillary.

THE THING FROM THE SWAMP: (by Bob Somerby at the Daily Howler)
In the future, scientists will demand the right to dig up—and examine—Richard Cohen. They’ll demand that right on the basis of columns like the one in [Tuesday] morning’s Post. It isn’t hard to summarize: When Hillary Clinton misstates, “she lies.” Indeed, she “just can’t help herself.” (You will note, if you examine this piece, that Cohen gives few examples.) But when a certain straight-talker misstates, he remains the world’s greatest known human
